Susan Nesbit is a Professional Engineer and Professor of Teaching in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC) where she has lead the development of sustainability curriculum and has taught several sustainability-and-engineering courses. Her research interest is in sustainability learning in engineering education. She is the co-author of UBC’s graduating student sustainability attributes, and she is UBC’s Sustainability Initiative liaison to the Faculty of Applied Science. Susan supports faculty development, having designed and/or co-facilitated several teaching workshops offered at UBC, the American Society of Engineering Education, and the Canadian Engineering Education Association, and she is an experienced formative and summative assessor of teaching practice in higher education. She has a Ph.D. in chemical engineering, and bachelor degrees in both chemical engineering and Canadian history. (+)

Naoko Ellis is a Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC). She holds a Ph.D. (UBC, 2003); M.E.Sc. (Western, 1993); and a B.Sc. (Honours, Waterloo, 1991). She is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC; and the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering, currently serving on the board. Her expertise lies in the area of multiphase reaction engineering with emphasis on biomass utilization. Some current projects include: biomass gasification and pyrolysis; CO2 capture, including chemical looping combustion; pyrolysis product utilization; and biofuels. She is also working on sustainability education and leadership with interest in interdisciplinary learning. (+)
