DESCRIPTION:The tools provided by nanotechnologies allow us to create new 
 types of devices not only smaller\, but also with unprecedented properties
 . Among others\, nano-biosensors and nanoactuators\, capable of observing 
 and controlling subcellular processes with molecular precision\, have been
  experimentally demonstrated in recent years. At the moment these devices 
 are neither autonomous nor intelligent\, but they require the control and 
 supervision of a local operator to operate. However\, in the same way that
  telecommunication between virtually all objects in our environment has ch
 anged the way we live\, communication between nanosensors and\, eventually
 \, their interconnection on the Internet\, will revolutionize the diagnosi
 s and treatment of various Diseases\, from different types of cancer to ne
 urodegenerative diseases. In this seminar\, we will introduce the concept 
 of the Internet of Nano-things and we will define the role and opportuniti
 es that telecommunication engineers have in the development of this area o
 f ​​research. First\, review the state of the art in terms of emitters
  and detectors\, modulators and demodulators\, antennas and groupings of a
 ntennas at optical frequencies and in the Terahertz band. We will also stu
 dy new channel models for the human body that take into account the comple
 xity and interactions of biological tissues with electromagnetic waves at 
 these frequencies. Finally\, based on the capabilities of the nano-devices
  and channel properties\, we will discuss mechanisms to be able to transmi
 t information between nano-devices in a reliable\, efficient and biocompat
 ible manner.

DESCRIPTION:Abstract: Starting with Baseball in the 90s\, quantitative met
 hods have creeped their way into all levels of decision-making in professi
 onal sports organizations. Even though this evolution has taken different 
 forms and speeds depending on the sport or league\, most have shared sever
 al common themes: the incremental availability of richer data sources fuel
 ed by a growing interest in their potential\, the challenge in communicati
 ng actionable insights to very successful and traditionally-minded industr
 y leaders\, and\, nonetheless\, the overall evolution of the conventional 
 standards towards more analytically-oriented principles. In this talk\, fo
 cused primarily but not exclusively in basketball\, we will have a brief l
 ook at the early stages of the field\, before discussing the growth in its
  data sources\, the type of research that was made possible\, the transfor
 mational effects of some of those results in creating new strategical stan
 dards\, and the challenges of implementing quantitative-based insights int
 o the day-to-day decision-making of a sports organization.
