Final thesis in Mobility (EXCLUDING Grau en Enginyeria de Dades)
Studies or Traineeship (determine in which of these two modalities you will perform your final thesis)
Once you have obtained a position (University/ Company), you will probably know already the modality. The stay in a company is always a traineeship, but in a university you can either go for studies or for traineeship. At the moment of the application to the university (explained at the link above), you will determine it completely.
You can perform the final thesis either in a stay for studies or in a stay for traineeship. Broadly speaking:
- if your stay is for studies, the final thesis you perform has a number of credits at the host university, and they are stated at the learning agreement for studies, associated to a subject. That normally means that you enrol in both universities and defend your thesis at the host institution and don't need to defend at ETSETB.
- On the other hand, if you go for traineeship, your activity will not be defined at the host institution by a number of credits associated to a subject, but by a work description and a number of working hours. at the host institution. That means that you normally do not enrol at the host institution (although sometimes they recommend you to do it, so that you can have certain services), and that you have to defend mandatorily at ETSETB (although we will need to receive an assessment from your supervisor before your defense anyway)
Although in the first case defense is normally made at the host university, in both cases you will need an ETSETB evaluation board, who will consider, on the one hand, the host assessment documents and on the other hand, both your written work and your oral defence. If your oral defence is made at the host university (stays for studies), they will assess the part of the oral defence according to the grade of the host university. The assessment documents in both cases are shown in detail at the part "before returning"
What to do before leaving
Obtain a destination (University/ Company) and determine the modality of your stay.
Request for scholarships. within the corresponding deadlines (calendar). If you request for an Erasmus scholarship (Europe), it is important that you consider the different requirements for the stay for studies and the stay for traineeship.

To find a thesis and a host supevisor, you have some information at "Obtain a a mobility place", at the second point, that explains how to do the application at the host university.

- Assign you the thesis through the ETSETB Intranet, so that you can enrol it afterwards.
- Validate the documents you have to upload at the ETSETB Intranet when you do the deposit (final report, etc)
- Only for bachelors: fill in the supervisor evaluation report at the ETSETB Intranet, considering the host assessment documents and the written work of the student submitted at the ETSETB Intranet.
The supervisor of your thesis at the host institution will have to:
- Monitor your work in the host institution.

Enrol the thesis through e-secretaria within the periods of ETSETB enrolment. If you must begin the stay before the enrolment period, hire the OnCampus insurance before leaving and have the document confirmed at e-secretaria before your enrolment, as stated at Documents before leaving
What to do during the stay

Initiate the actions for the assignation of your ETSETB evaluation board (within ETSETB deadlines)
Both if you defend at ETSETB or at the host university, you need to have an ETSETB evaluation board, who will assess both your written work and your oral defence; in case you do not defend at ETSETB, they will consider the grade of your oral defence at the host university to qualify this aspect. The actions you must do to have an ETSETB evaluation board assigned and the deadlines to do so are at the following links:
- Final thesis of MET/MATT/MEE/MENGFIS. Within the ETSETB deadlines, send the request for the evaluation board, signed both by your ETSETB thesis supervisor and you to etsetb.tfm@upc.edu. See procedure and deadlines MET/MATT/MEE/MENGFIS.
- Final thesis of GRETST or GREELEC. Select at Atenea, within ETSETB deadline, your option for defence period. See procediment GRAUS TIC
- Final thesis of Grau de Física or Photonics master. The evaluation board and defence dates are decided by ETSETB. See procediment Grau en Eng. Física and Procedure Photonics Master.

What to do before returning (within ETSETB deadlines)
If you defend at ETSETB (this is always the case for traineeships). You will need:
- Supervisor's assessment (Word version) (Pdf version). Within the ETSETB deadlines, your host thesis supervisor has to send it signed to students.mobility@etsetb.upc.edu. Make sure that the part of the study plan name and the credits (first page) is filled in before giving the model to the host supervisor to complete. The host supervisor is to complete and sign the rest of the document (the grade at the section for the students who have not made a public defense). The document is necessary before your defence. The deadlines are to be found, according to your study plan, at : https://telecos.upc.edu/ca/els-serveis/secretaria-oberta/treballs.
- Date, time and room for the defence*, within ETSETB deadlines. For MET, MATT, MEE i M Física, you and your evaluation board must manage this process, within the deadlines and as explained at the procedure and deadlines MET/MATT/MEE/MENGFIS; for the rest of the plans, ETSETB will manage it and you must be aware of teh date and time assigned to you (procediment i terminis graus TIC, procediment i terminis Grau Física, procedure and deadlines Photonics/Europhotonics).

The deadlines, according to your study plan, are at : https://telecos.upc.edu/ca/els-serveis/secretaria-oberta/treballs.
- Official document with the grade. Within the ETSETB deadlines, we have to receive this document in one of the two formats specified below. The ETSETB evaluation board will consider this grade in order to assess your oral defense. The deadlines, according to your study plan, are at : https://telecos.upc.edu/ca/els-serveis/secretaria-oberta/treballs.. The two formats of the document are the following:
- Either the transcript of records signed and stamped, coherent with the supervisor's assessment information (credits, etc), which has to be original, or with an official digital signature, or with verification code, or directly sent by the host university to students.mobility@etsetb.upc.edu, with stamp and signature.
