1st Edition BSC Days @ Telecos – Visit to BSC and MareNostrum 5

Feb 16, 2026

This February, several groups of students from the school visited the facilities of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS), one of the most important technology centres in Europe, located on our own campus.

Future Vision and Professional Development

As part of the “BSC Days”, the Director of ETSETB, Alba Pagès, welcomed the students in the "Teleensenyament" classroom. The session also included Alba Vila, AI Institute Coordinator, and Laura Delshams, Talent Manager at BSC.

They explained different career paths and future opportunities at BSC for engineering and research profiles. This presentation helped students understand the high-level professional opportunities that their academic training can offer.

The Heart of Supercomputing: MareNostrum 5

The most expected moment of the visit was the tour of the infrastructures. Students had the opportunity to see the impressive MareNostrum 5, one of the most advanced supercomputers in Europe.

During the visit to the technical rooms, they could understand the large scale of the system and learn about the complex engineering behind it. As part of the tradition, the visit also included the iconic Torre Girona Chapel, a unique space that combines historic architecture with advanced technology and that has hosted previous generations of MareNostrum.

This experience helped bring Telecos students closer to the leading innovation ecosystem represented by BSC. It also inspired students and showed the direct impact of engineering on science and society.
