This academic year, the Barcelona School of Telecommunications Engineering (ETSETB) has launched a new subject called Introduction to Mathematics and Telecommunications Engineering (IMATEC). This course was created by combining the former IMAT seminar (Introduction to Mathematics), which took place before the academic year started, with the teaching technologies developed in the RESOLUT project.
IMATEC is an optional 3 ECTS course designed for new students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunications Technologies and Services Engineering (GRETST), the Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic Telecommunications Engineering (GREELEC), and the Academic Programme of Successive Pathway (PARS). It is aimed at students who want to improve their mathematics knowledge, as well as their study and work habits, before starting first-year subjects. In this first edition, 169 students from the three programmes have enrolled.
During the semester, students have also attended three sessions: one at the beginning of the course and two after the midterm exam period. In these sessions, they carried out activities related to the subject Advanced Engineering Project (PAE), which is developed by fourth-year students. They attended a presentation about the initial proposal of the projects and participated in two solution-generation sessions to solve challenges connected to the PAE projects. All these projects were proposed by external companies or institutions. At the end of the semester, students will watch videos of some final project presentations.
