The Department of Signal Theory and Communications at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) conducts research and teaching in the field of telecommunications theory, technology and engineering and its applications.

The Department of Electronic Engineering at the UPC was created in 1987 within the framework of the University Reform Law (LRU). It carries out education, research and development activities in the areas of Telecommunications, Industrial Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Bioengineering.

The Department of Mathematics at the UPC carries out teaching and research functions in scientific and technical fields in the area of Applied Mathematics.

The Department of Network Engineering teaches in the area of telematics at the ETSETB, the EETAC and the EPSEVG. It organises its research activity into three research lines: Wireless Communications Design; Evaluation of Broadband Networks and Services; and Telematic Services.

The Department of Physics teaches the physical foundations of engineering and architecture, and maintains a continuous offering of free elective and optional subjects in the areas of its expertise. Its research is conducted in the fields of Physics, Mathematics and Engineering.

The Department of Computer Architecture is responsible for teaching computer structure and organisation, computer architecture, operating systems, computer networks, computer evaluation and VLSI design. The Department currently maintains five independent research groups.

The Department of Management teaches in most UPC schools. Its members participate in various UPC research groups.

The Department of Theory and History of Architecture and Communication Techniques deals with architecture, in its proximity to the humanities, and engineering, reflecting on technology and culture and perfecting communication in English for specific purposes. Precisely because of its cross-disciplinary nature, its teaching staff are prominent in publishing, museums, architecture criticism, debate on architectural heritage and culture in general.
