1. Registration

TFM registration is done trhough the Offers App in the intranet, where faculty can offer proposals. Registration must be accepted or rejected by both faculty and students.

Faculty and student can also agree on an offer between them, this offer must bu introduced in the Offers App, and i must be directly assigned to the student that will have to accept it.

Once the offer is accepted, it will be registered, and the Master's Thesis will be available for enrollment, provided the minimum of credits required is met (enrolled + passed).

2. Enrolment

TFM enrolment is formalised online, in the enrolment period, according to the assigned enrolment order  (see Master Enrolment. Not new students).

With the TFM enrolment you must reach the ECTS credit total pending for Master's Degree completion. But it can also be combined with other pending subjects if needed, but the total credits enrolled must not exceed 36 credits, the maximum allowed by the UPC..

Extra Enrolment (extension)

TFM enrolment is valid until the end of the ordinary deadline, and it can be extended by paying the corresponding administrative fees, that will be generated by the school at the beginning of the next semester.

If the student does not want to defend in neither the ordinary deadline or the extension, they must make a request via the e-secretaria, request No Qualification, and they will have to enroll again the next semester, with a surcharge due to repeated enrollment in the same course. The "Request for NOT to take part in the extended call" procedure must be done within the period established in the calendar.

If after the extended deadline the student has not passed the TFM, it will also be qualified as No Qualification, and will have to be enrolled again, with the corresponding surcharge.

 

3. Deposit and Validation

The thesis file must be written entirely in English. You can find models here LaTeX / Word.

In order to deposit the thesis file the student must upload it to the intraned following these instructions:

  1. Sign Autorization/confidentiality. Data referring to the thesis' publication. Important: before signing the confidentiality agreement take the following details into account:
    • By default, the dissemination of the thesis to the electronic repository of academic thesis of the Servei de Biblioteques, Publicacions i Arxius de la UPC (UPC Libraries, Publications and Archives Service) is authorised.

    • In the event of the TFM containing information and/or documentation of confidential character, or details that affect the protection of intellectual or industrial rights, the dissemination of the thesis will be postponed according to the established period (maximum 5 years), and only the bibliographical data will be published. Once this period is expired, full text dissemination will be authorised. According the 3.1.5 section of the Academic Regulations for Bachelor's and Master's Degrees. It will be necessary to attach the request and justificaton of confidentiality to the intranet "Fitxers" tab, duly signed.

  • Thesis File. "Fitxers" tab.
  • Fill the “Bibliographic Data” tab. The title must match the one from the file. In order to request a title modification, either the director or the studen must send an email to the following adress:
  • Mobility students: we will need as well the assessment documents from the host institution. You will find the information at: TFG/TFM in mobility stay.

    Each time the student uploads or signs any of the mentioned files, the director or codirector must validate it. Once validated, a document can no longer be changed by the student.

     

    4. Evaluation Board

    For the evaluation board assingment you must download this document from the intranet. The TFM director must fill the proposal of president and substitute president, and send it to the following email adress: etsetb.tfm@upc.edu

    The designation of the vocal is established by the coordinator of the TFM, the communication will be through email.

    Defenses will be carried out in the established period as it appears in the TFM calendar.

    A TFM defense cannot be realised with only 2 board members.

     

    5. Oral Defense

    The oral defense of the TFM is public, and must be realised in english.

    The student must arrange a time and place for the defense with the members of the evaluation board, and enter this information in the  “Consentment for the defense"” tab in the intranet, at least 5 days before the defense. All evaluation member must give their approval to this information.

    For in-person defense, the booking of classrooms (Multimedia and Teleensenyament are recommended) in the B3 building must be made thorugh this link by the student.

    In exceptional cases, online defense can be requested, providing justification through this document, and sending it to etsetb.tfm@upc.edu. Express approval by the school's direction is necessary. The deadline for to make this request is 20 working days before the defense at the latest. The resolution, be it positive or negative, will be delivered to the student 10 working days after the request. If the online defense is approved you must follow these instructions in this link.

     

    6. Evaluation

    Once the board has evaluated the TFM, the Secretary must enter the grade in  Prisma and send the defense certificate to be signed. See procedure.

    Afterwards the certificate will be received at the UPC Digital Siganture Service.

    Honours: The number of honours cannot exceed 5% of the total enrolled TFM in the semester (including both ordinary deadline and extension).

    If a TFM grade is of 9,0 or above, and the board considers it deserves honours, it must propose and justify it in the "justification" field.

    If the number of honours nominated TFMs exceeds the alloted 5%, the Master Coordinator will decide which Thesis receive it.

    If the 5% honours are given in the ordinary deadline, this qualification cannot be given to any thesis defended in the extended deadline.

     

    7. Professional TFM (Modality B)

    TFM made in a private company, institution or research center. There are two sub-modes:

    • Educational Cooperation Agreement (CCE). managed by the school's Industy Relations department. You can find more information at Empreses.

    • Without Educational Cooperation Agreement (Work Contract). You must submit the following documentation via email at etsetb.tfm@upc.edu.

      • Work Contract
      • "Vida laboral" report, expedited by Social Security Treasury
      • TFE acceptance document by the company / entity in Catalan / Spanish / English. If signed by hand the document must be submitted in person at the ETSETB's Academic Office.
    • TFM enrolment will be automatically done once the documentation is verified.

     

    8. Mobility (Modalities C and D)

    Regardless of defending abroad or at the UPC, you need an Evaluation Board here at the ETSETB, which will evaluate both written thesis and oral defense.
