INTRANET SITES and REGULATIONS
TFM's language: in ENGLISH exclusively
- The Master Thesis must be written in English.
- The public presentation of the The Master Thesis is conducted in English.
Intranet sites
The places of the Intranet you will have to use at the different parts of the process are the following:
Step 1 |
Offers Application (Except for incoming exchange students. See info step 1) |
ETSETB Intranet (https://www.etsetb.upc.edu/sys/login.html). Menu: Docència > Ofertes TFG/PFC/TFM. |
Rest of steps | Deposit Application | ETSETB Intranet (https://www.etsetb.upc.edu/sys/login.html). Menu: Acadèmica > Dipòsit TFG/PFC/TFM. |
Regulations
Associated Regulations ( in Catalan only)
- (NAGRAMA) Normativa Acadèmica dels estudis de Grau i Màster de la UPC (Punt 3.5. Publicació i accés als models d’exàmens i treballs acadèmics)
- Normativa de propietat intel·lectual de la UPC
1. Offer and allocation of thesis (Intranet ETSETB)
Regular students
Offers Application. General information
There are two options to assign the thesis to a student:
- The professor may choose the student directly when uploading the thesis at the offers application, if it has been previously agreed between them. So that the assignment is completed, the student must choose the “accept” option.
- The professor may publish the offer and set a deadline for students to apply for it. In this case, the professor will select one of the candidates, who can accept or reject the thesis awarded. The assignment will not be completed until it has been accepted by the student selected.
- To upload the thesis on the offers application, the professor must meet the requirements to act as thesis advisor (Academic Regulations for Masters Degree Theses)
- To be assigned to a thesis, the student should not have more than 36 ECTS pending to overcome, apart from the thesis.
If there are two co-advisors, one of them will act as the secretary of the Evaluation Board. The future secretary must upload the offer and fill in the fields with the details of the other co-advisor.
Incoming exchange students who come for only one semester
For incoming exchange students that come to the ETSETB only to do the Master Thesis, this step is not followed at the Intranet, since the student has no access to the Intranet before finding a Master Thesis. In this case, please read the section "Before enrollment" at: http://etsetb.upc.edu/ca/international/foreign-students/application-and-procedure#section-13.
Incoming exchange students who come for two semesters
If the incoming student performs the project after having studied courses one semester at ETSETB, the step can be followed through the Intranet like the regular students.
2. Thesis enrolment (e-secretaria)
To enrol the thesis, the student must:
- Accept through the Intranet the thesis previously assigned to him/her by the professor, as explained in point 1. (Except for the exceptions indicated in the last paragraph, where the acceptance will be by paper)
- Enroll all the pending ECTS of the master (maximum 36 ECTS counting the subjects and the TFM).
Validity period of enrollment
Extension of enrolment (NOT VALID until the end of next semester):
If the assessment of the thesis does not occur in the same semester in which it is enrolled there may be an extension of its validity if the student pays the amount of the administrative services (arround 90 € for management of academic records, supporting learning and student insurance, if applicable).
This extension, however, does not extend until the end of the semester. These deadlines are published in NAGRAMA; check dates in table below.
After this period, if the thesis has not been assessed, it will qualify as NP, and the student will have to enroll it again. The price of this new enrollment will include the thesis credits with the corresponding increase for second registration, as well as the fees for administrative services.
Incoming exchange students
For incoming exchange students, this step is somewhat different. Please read the section "Enrollment" at: http://etsetb.upc.edu/ca/international/foreign-students/application-and-procedure#section-13.
3. Assigning of Evaluation Board (request form issued through ETSETB Intranet)
Students that defend at UPC
Submit document of request signed by tutor and student.
At this new section of the Intranet, the student can generate and fill the document to request for the evaluation board, which then the tutor must send to the responsible person in the Academic Office (virginia.cabello@upc.edu). Due to the situation caused by the COVID-19 crisis, the document doesn't need to be signed.
Deadline to deliver the request document
This document must be delivered at least ONE MONTH BEFORE PRESENTATION.
OUTGOING students that defend abroad in a mobility program (not valid for traineeships)
Students that defend abroad in a mobility program will also be assigned an evaluation board at ETSETB who will assess their thesis, according to the report uploaded by the student and the supervisor's assessment and the lecture certificate signed by the external supervisor and sent to students.mobility@etsetb.upc.edu.
These students will have to request for the evaluation board in the same way as the students who defend at UPC. At least one month before the deadline for defense at UPC. At the request, they should inform that they will not defend at UPC.
4. Documents to be uploaded. THESIS MUST BE IN ENGLISH.
-
Authorization and confidentiality: Digitally sign the type of Authorization and confidentiality to publish the Master Thesis through the web site of the UPC library and Documentations: check the boxes in the tab named “Authorization and confidentiality”.
The deadline for signing is on the calendar at the bottom of this page. Please, be aware that If you don’t sign it, you won´t be able to upload the Final Thesis file.
Important: before signing the confidentiality keep in mind the following aspects (you will find the links to the regulations associated to the end of this page, be aware that those documents are in Catalan only):
• By default, as envisaged in point 3.5 NAGRAMA, the student authorizes the dissemination of work to the electronic repository of academic works of the Library Service (Servei de Biblioteques i Documentaciói de la UPC).
• In case the student signs it as NOT confidential, if the advisor/co-advisor believes that confidentiality is appropriate, she/he may modify this agreement, indicating the reason before signing it (Point 3.2 of the intellectual property regulations of the UPC). The student will receive information on this.
The advisor has to validate this confidentiality agreement before being able to validate the Final report file.
-
Final Thesis file. Students must upload the file of the report at the Files tab. The title of the cover must exactly match the title in the Bibliographic data tab. Here you will find a template for your master’s thesis in LaTeX and in word. Remember that THE TEXT OF THE THESIS MUST BE ENTIRELY IN ENGLISH.
-
Bibliographic data. It is necessary that the student completes all fields: title, abstract and keywords, at the Bibliographic data tab. The title must exactly match the title of the cover file of the report. Important:: If it has been modified, you must request us by email (virginia.cabello@upc.edu), to change it at the system, so that it matches with the cover of the final report uploaded and the browse “bibliographic data” .
Mobility (outgoing) assessment documents (even though thesis is defended at UPC). For the assessment of outgoing students it is a requirement that the external supervisor signs and sends to students.mobility@etsetb.upc.edu the following documents, which will be uploaded by the ETSETB staff at the Deposit application:
4.- Supervisor's assessment. All outgoing students, even though they defend at UPC. If the student defends at UPC, the external supervisor may mark "no" at section 7 and leave it incomplete. If the student does not defend at UPC, section 7 must be complete.
5.- Certificate of oral presentation abroad. Only students that don't defend at UPC. Only valid for mobility stays for studies (SMS), not for traineeships (SMT); For traineeships, defence at UPC is compulsory.
This validation must be fully completed one week before presentation.
5. Previous to defense (for students who defend at UPC)
The public presentation of the TFM is conducted in English.
Reservation of Classroom (Reservaespais Area)
Approval for reading (Intranet ETSETB)
All the members of the Evaluation board must give their agreement to the proposed date and time through the same application. Until this is done, the Department of Academic Affairs won't initiate the process for the reading.
Mobility outgoing students with special requirements for thesis presentations, please consult the Mobility website (https://telecos.upc.edu/en/international/studying-abroad/procediment/procediment)
ETSETB mobility outgoing students that defend and are assessed abroad (remember we will need the supevisor's assessment and the lecture certificate, as explained at the section "documents") may not defend at ETSETB, provided their stay is for studies (SMS), not for traineeship (SMT). The assessment process then will be the following:
- After we receive the supervisor's assessment and the lecture certificate, we will notify the members of the evaluation board that they can meet to assess the student. Remember that before that, the student and the ETSETB supervisor must have requested for the evaluation board and must have completed the thesis deposit.
- Once the evaluation board assesses the student through the ETSETB Intranet, the grade will be introduced into the student's records and he/she will be able to see it at prisma-nou.upc.edu/estudiants > expedient > documentació.
